What is Tambo?

Tambo is an open-source toolkit designed to seamlessly integrate AI agents into React applications. It allows developers to connect existing UI components directly to an AI agent, which handles streaming, state management, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) automatically. With Tambo, you can ship AI features without rebuilding your frontend. The agent inherits user permissions, ensuring secure interactions, and renders your components with the correct props, preserving your styling and logic.

Key features include error state handling, cancellation support, message threads, and built-in MCP support. Tambo is lightweight and can be dropped into any React app in minutes. It supports unlimited users (via OAuth), chat-thread history, analytics, and observability. The toolkit is ideal for building chatbots, AI assistants, or any feature requiring natural language interaction with your UI.

Use cases include travel booking apps where users can ask "What seats are available?" and the agent renders a <SeatMap> component with real-time data. E-commerce platforms can enable voice or text queries for product search, filtering, and checkout. Customer support portals can integrate AI agents to guide users through troubleshooting steps using existing UI elements.

Tambo offers flexible pricing: a Starter plan with 10K messages per month and community support; a Growth plan with 200K messages included and additional blocks; and an Enterprise plan with negotiated volume, SSO/SAML, RBAC, SOC 2, HIPAA, and 99.99% uptime SLA. A self-hosted option is available for free forever via the tambo-ai/tambo-cloud repository.

Technical details: Tambo works with any React version and integrates with existing state management solutions. It uses MCP for contextual communication between the agent and components. The package is available on npm as @tambo-ai/react, and the UI component library provides pre-built elements for common patterns.
