What is Claude Cowork?

Claude Cowork represents a new way to interact with your digital workspace by giving Claude AI direct access to your file system. In this research preview, users can grant Claude permission to browse, read, and organize files and folders on their local machine. The primary task is task management: you can ask Claude to find specific files, summarize their contents, rename or move batches of documents, or even create new files based on your instructions. For example, you could say, "Find all PDFs from last month and sort them by project name," or "Create a summary of the notes in my research folder."

Claude Cowork is built with privacy in mind—file access is controlled by the user and can be revoked anytime. The AI does not send file contents to external servers; processing happens locally when possible. This makes it suitable for sensitive data handling.
