What is The Asimov Institute?

The Asimov Institute is a non-profit AI research organization dedicated to exploring the intersection of deep learning and creativity. Our mission is to advance artificial creativity while ensuring responsible development of autonomous systems. We publish fundamental breakthroughs in neural network research, advise on societal and business impacts of AI, and develop practical tools for creative industries including architecture, graphic design, fashion, marketing, and music production.

Our core research area is the Neural Network Zoo, a comprehensive taxonomy of neural network architectures that serves as a reference for researchers and practitioners. We also lead the Inverse Surveillance AI project, which investigates methods to protect privacy and constrain AI systems from harmful surveillance applications. In 2021, we hosted the Inverse Surveillance AI Hackathon to foster innovative solutions in this domain.
